TACT Hellas

TACT HELLAS is a Not For Profit, Non Governmental Organisation established in 2005. Its aims and activities are in the area of mental health, disability and wellbeing for all citizens and all ages (children, youth, adults and elderly).

Our organisation accepts and implements the consensus statement of the World Health Organization (WHO) within the division of Mental Health and Prevention of Substance Abuse WHO/MNH/MIND/96.2

We organise self help groups, parent training and psychosocial interventions for the prevention and treatment of children, youth, adults and elderly with psychological, social, physical and educational problems. We aim to raise the awareness of the community and influence political decisions concerning human rights, equal opportunities and tolerance of differences within the community. We focus on the disadvantaged and how to support their needs.

Several of our members are practicing psychologists – psychotherapists with expertise in Gestalt, Systemic, Cognitive Behavioural and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for the treatment of EMDR and other traumas. We are also currently interested in the uses of Neurofeedback for the relief of symptoms and support of focus, positve mood and well being.

We introduce youth with or without disabiltiy to the the world of work through the implementation of the supported employment model of vocational integration. We support families so that their children will not be socially excluded from the community.

We support disabled individuals in supported living settings and support families so that they may live a normalized life. We offer support services to individuals, families, groups so that they may increase their well being and involvement in everyday life.

Several events, such as workshops, scientific seminars, day events, symposiums, cultural and social events, etc., have been organized by TACT HELLAS during the past years. These gatherings were arranged in order to raise awareness concerning disability, rights, self determination, self advocacy, tolerance building and the general knowledge regarding personal differences.

From 2006 TACT HELLAS is responsible for the administration of a fifteen person Group Home in Giannena-Greece for persons with multiple disabilities. The tenants of this group home were prior inmates of the Psychiatric Hospital of Corfu which was shut down in 2006.
